Houston, Texas-based energy firm ConocoPhillips and National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project have planned to jointly host 26 energy education workshops over the course of next 11 months.

The companies are aiming to use the workshops to make American school teachers aware of energy efficiency and the need for conservation. Teachers who attend the workshop will later share their knowledge with students in classrooms educating them about the sources of energy and the methods of conservation.

Over the past three years, ConocoPhillips and NEED have provided training and resources to approximately 3,000 teachers, who in turn have reached more than 290,000 students.

“This year, more than 1,000 educators are expected to participate in the one-day workshops,” the energy company stated in a press release.

Each workshop participant receives state-correlated curriculum guides and hands-on experiments that spark innovative thinking and encourage a creative dialogue about today's energy challenges.

"An understanding of energy is fundamental to making important energy decisions today and in the future," said Mary Spruill, executive director of the NEED Project.

The NEED Project wants to promote an energy conscious society by creating effective networks of students, educators, businesses and community leaders to deliver multi-sided energy education programs.

The companies cited an unnamed survey to claim that more than 90 percent of the workshop participants rate the ConocoPhillips-NEED workshops as one of the best training sessions they have ever attended.

"ConocoPhillips' commitment to improving the teaching and learning of energy - in all its forms - energizes the classroom and engages students in explorations that may spark their interest in future energy careers," Mary added.

With over 29,000 employees, ConocoPhillips has an asset of $156 billion and $189 billion of revenues.
