Autonomic Software, Inc., a provider of advanced enterprise IT power management solutions announced that its Power Manager product is fully certified under the Manitoba Hydro “Power Smart” Network Energy Management Program.

Manitoba Hydro is expected to offer complete reimbursement to businesses that purchase and install Autonomic’s Power Manager.

According to official sources, Manitoba Hydro serves as a major energy utility and exports electricity to more than 30 electric utilities in Canada and the mid-western United States.

A huge share of the electricity generated by Manitoba Hydro is from renewable sources, including four hydroelectric generating stations on the Winnipeg, Saskatchewan and Nelson rivers.

Cheryl Elnor, director of Manitoba Hydro’s Power Smart program, explained that new and innovative ways can be used to provide customers with more power from renewable sources and also help them reduce their overall energy costs.

According to Elnor, the addition of Autonomic Software’s Power Manager to the Power Smart program will allow organizations of every size to participate in the incentive program besides helping in significant reduction of overall IT power expenditures.

ANSA Power Management delivers policy-driven control over the energy settings of desktop and laptop computers. It is estimated by California’s biggest utility, Pacific Gas and Electric, that Power Manager will save more than $60,000 per year for a typical 1,000-desktop enterprise. Also Autonomic has joined McAfee (News - Alert) for the provision of Power and Patch Management plug-ins for McAfee’s ePolicy Orchestrator users. The products are available via a nationwide reseller program or direct sales.
