Better than 'Fresh Air': Green Developer Nexus Offers 99.7 Percent Pure Air in Homes

According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) studies, levels of air pollution inside the home are often two to five times higher than outdoor levels. And poor indoor air quality is associated with a host of health problems, including eye irritation, allergies, headaches and such respiratory problems as asthma. In addition, indoor air quality is having a sizable financial impact on the home building industry. Litigation associated with mold and other indoor air quality related concerns, as well as the rising cost of liability coverage, have cost builders nationwide billions of dollars.

But now you don’t have to be afraid to inhale. Stevensville, Maryland-based Nexus EnergyHomes, Inc., known for its green homes, is now offering the type of clean room technology typically used in manufacturing or research environments. Available now in a residential model, the system cleans the air in a room, to eliminate mold, radon, carbon monoxide, allergens, and toxic chemicals commonly found in homes.

As an EPA Indoor AirPlus partner, Nexus EnergyHomes, says that it is continuing its “mission to deliver GeoSolar Communities … and homes on the leading edge of technology, building design and clean air.” The Nexus Clean Air system–powered by Nautic Air LLC and manufactured by Cambridge International—adds to the builder’s list of state-of-the-art home features.

In fact, according to the next-generation home developer, the Nexus Clean Air system eliminates 99.7 percent percent of harmful airborne contaminates and “is unlike any other air purification system on the market today,” due to advanced, green photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) technology and patent pending design. The company says that the two-chambered system can eliminate airborne contaminates down to .001 microns making the air circulating through the home much healthier.

Nexus founder and president, Paul Zanecki says, “Seeking exclusive partnerships innovating proprietary systems for both home health and renewable energies is a core leadership strategy for our company.”

Mike Murphy, president of Nexus’ Construction Division, commented, “We believe this is the best product on the market today for residential clean air technologies.” What is unique and compelling about this clean air technology is that it goes beyond simply filtering the air to sterilize it, utilizing a cutting-edge combination of UV light and titanium dioxide that destroys viruses, bacteria and other contaminates.”

The system will support the builder’s existing clean air components—including a central vacuum and energy recovery ventilation system with HEPA filtration; and low to no volatile organic compound (VOC) building materials, sealants, and adhesives.

“[We are] proud to partner with Nexus Energy Homes as it builds not just the homes of the future but as it continues to develop the future of homes,” said Heath Schuman, president and CEO of Nautic Air LLC, also based in Stevensville, Maryland. “We’re excited to help homebuyers breathe cleaner and better air, while they also enjoy the significant advantages and benefits from a house designed and constructed by Nexus.”

During a testimonial interview last week, Geordie Wilson, a Nexus Energy homebuyer said, “They call it surgical quality air, but whatever it is, it feels very clean, very fresh, and that’s important to me because I suffer from allergies. Moving into this house, I haven’t really had any problems at all with my allergies since we’ve been here, and we moved in during the late ragweed season. In our old house, I’d just be dripping, and I’d have to pop some allergy meds, and I haven’t done that really at all, so I’ve definitely noticed a difference.”

Nexus EnergyHomes Geo Solar Communities have been built in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Designed to meet the rigorous requirements of the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS) and become certified by the NAHB Research Center at the Emerald level-the highest certification level, Nexus EnergyHomes feature geothermal (ground sourced) heat pumps, photovoltaic solar panels, super-insulated building shells, state-of-the-art electronic and web-based controls and monitoring systems and Energy-Star rated appliances.
